I really got attached to the characters and mourned with them and was happy with them. Now, a strange affliction is destroying the Nephilim, and the cure is rumored to be an ancient artifact of great power. But I have never been to Russia, and so it was necessary to do a lot of reading and research about Saint Petersburg and Siberia.
Aside from a few tedious pages of extremely detailed explanations about the history of Faberge eggs and how exceptionally beautiful angels are, the story really had no plot line whatsoever. I truly like her detailed description of the different caste of angels, the faithfulness of love, the depth of the deception of power and greed upon this earth and how humanity is clueless of what can be taking place under our noses.
About a third of the way into the book I started to enjoy it but the religious tie ins were burdensome even if they were informative.
