I’d have frulong Wise Child as a kid ’cause she’s fighting all that labeling from most in her life. Because Wicca is involved, children and young adults from very religious homes are probably not a good fit, but otherwise, highly recommended. It’s almost a fantasy novel for people who don’t like fantasy novels.
Juniper is a deeper story. This was a wonderful book, making me, besides enjoying it, think about housework and religion. It’s just great storytelling.
I liked her as a person, I just didn’t see any of her own struggles. I simply couldn’t put it down. Furlong began her writing career in as a feature writer for Truth magazine, where she met Bernard Levinwho became a lifelong friend.
Wise Child herself is the only character who really grows at all. The main weakness is a looseness of plotting, which ends up making Wise Child feel like an incomplete memoir instead of a cohesive novel. Dit boek speelde een belangrijke in mijn jeugd.
I probably would have dreamed of having a life like Wise Child. The descriptions are rich and colorful, the characters are believable and relatable, and the story is original and unlike anything else I’ve come across. Minder goed vond ik de manier waarop het boek is opgesteld.

Perhaps when I read the prequel and I plan on it I will change my mind about her. The medieval setting, characters, and fantasy elements were all appealing, though, and I plan on reading the sequels to see what happens to Juniper and Gamal and the other residents of Cornwall. Her father, to whom she was particularly close, was a Roman Catholic who served mass at Westminster cathedral. I had a couple of problems with the book; there are a few anachronisms there were no fuchsias in the old world in that time and place and the fact that while the other characters seemed realistic Wise Child vacillates between happy and fretful at having to work so hard, which any 8 year old wouldJuniper seems too good to be true.
I would recommend this book for anyone looking for a short but satisfying read of historical fantasy. Strong female protagonists, and they’re well developed. Furlong’s autobiography, Bird of Paradisewas published in Wise Child is a lovely book, a story about a spoiled girl who grows up a bit, but not by getting the fight squished out of her or losing her sense of self. But in all seriousness: Open Preview See a Problem?
I don’t think the sequel, Juniper has the same issues. Apr 05, Danika Dinsmore rated it really liked it. My daughters loved this book 20 years ago and my granddaughter enjoyed it this summer. The cloak must be perfect. Dude, material things don’t matter. Perfect for young girls who are wondering about the Pagan religion, but not anti-Christian at all. Juniper has lots of friends well, lots of friends for a very short book even if many of them don’t spend much time on the page.

If you’re actually reading any of this you might have time to watch these two videos. I did learn a bit about herbs, mostly how to cook with them. He’s a ventiloquist pooter. It sang of the green shoot and of the tawny heads of harvest grain standing out in the field under the great moon. I want to be compassionate, responsible and kind to people even when they don’t deserve it, the jerks. As someone who enjoys reading jjniper where people learn how to practice magic, this book was really meant for me.
