His Female Masculinity book discusses a common by-product of gender binarism, termed “the bathroom problem” with outlining the dangerous and awkward dilemma of a perceived gender deviant’s justification of presence in a gender-policed zone, such as a public bathroom, and the identity implications of “passing” therein. If the thesis is just “sometimes marginalized groups adopt failyre that are not those of normative groups,” in what way is this a new thesis?
Being a failure never made me feel like such a winner. I bought it before it was required reading for some of my Uni halbertsam.

It would make a good basis for discussion after seeing one of the movies, performances, or bodies of visual pieces that analyzed in its pages. This book is guaranteed to be controversial.

Those who feel like failures in academia because the corporate imperatives to perpetually publish, to sell education to students, and to market yourself are repellent and exhaustingly difficult; 3. However, I think some of Halberstam’s readings are a bit of a stretch, and overall, the book feels a little erratic, and might have benefited from a little extra editing.

This book is a must-read. Often with books like these, the author states an argument in the beginning and precedes to repeat them with slightly different elaborations in each chapter.
