Corso’s all shabby and grungy and resentful, a bitter minor voice if there ever was one, and he says something to Ferlinghetti to the effect of “Ja Every bookish malcontent in the world gets all hot and bothered by the Beats, and that’s fine, of course, but Lawrence Ferlinghetti is one of the major poets of the movement and he gets overlooked quite often.

I periodically page through this book and re-read his poems and take pleasure in islabd imagery and cadence. Additionally, when he writes that he would “paint” a different Paradiso, there’s definitely a literal element to his statement, for Ferlinghetti’s work cconey also informed in a large way by his love of painting and his knowledge of Western masters as diverse as Goya, Chagall, and the abstract expressionists.

I bought my copy of this book at City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco, sat, and read it from cover to cover. Ferlinghetti is, in my view, king of the Beat Era poets. It is worth mentioning that within this section, there are two poems related to Allen Ginsberg.
