It would take a book at least the length of the novel to make a complete analysis of meaning and form and the correspondences of meaning and form, in L’Etranger. The title character is Meursault, an indifferent French Algerian described as “a citizen of France domiciled in North Africa strainkl, a man of the Mediterraneanan homme du midi yet one who hardly partakes of the traditional Mediterranean culture”.
Meursault is now incarcerated, and explains his arrest, time in prison, and upcoming trial.

In general, he considers other people either interesting or annoying, or feels nothing for them at all.
