I kept hoping that these two wily old characters might meet up but perhaps that might happen in a sequel! There are also many other minor characters who really made it for me too. In this delicious romantic comedy, a young Englishwoman gets an unexpected proposal from a dashing American, but it’s not what you think Sophie Apperly’s frustratingly dismissive family has never taken her seriously, but they do take advantage of her.
She has previously worked both as a cleaning lady and in a health food cafe. There were just enough characters in this book without it getting confusing as to who is who. I loved our main character Sophie was she was a very down to earth girl who many people will relate to. What I particularly liked about this book is that I found myself disliking some of the characters too! Is Luke only interested in Sophie’s actions when they involve his grandma or could there be more than meets the eye?
May 29, Rea Cobb rated it really liked it. And so the Cinderella roles are reversed. A situation that might help both her and Matilda, as Matilda sends Sophie back to England with a request, to find the house Matilda spent her holidays in as a youth.
I know how it ends – there was no real conflict except that Sophie was poor and Ftorde was rich and she is basically an idiot. By the way, it amuses me to see the quotes on Katie’s novels about what a great beach read they are. Bridget Jones’s Diary is all about the holidays, bonfire night, Christmas Shopbop Designer Fashion Brands. Uneven fare from the British Fforde, made forgivable by an appealing heroine.

I would recommend this ffode for anyone looking for an easy, warm homely read. Whatever it is, The Perfect Proposal, for me, fell sort of flat. I’m not sure what to do. It is a likeable book with likeable characters. I did like the overall story. Sophie was such a mess and not in that endearingly quirky British way.
He’s rforde, but isn’t an all out horrible person. Perfrct her luck is going to change when she helps an older woman during a art show. Would you like to tell us about a lower price? When she gets to New York, she meets Matilda, an elderly lady originally from Cornwall.
However, I do realize that reading a book is a personal experience and what doesn’t work for me might work for someone else.

I am a Fforde fan. I can not tell you how many times I have re-read her books. Thank you for your feedback. The constant emphasis on how poor she is is also pretty grating, as she seems to have plenty of money to buy things in NYC but not enough to eat meals.
